So Apple’s first of two or three streaming events this fall is in the books and, well, it was pretty uneventful. Other than pricing details for the new Apple Fitness+ and Apple One subscriptions, there really wasn’t anything major revealed today. I can’t remember if anyone predicted the Product RED Watch beforehand, but almost everything else was common knowledge.
However, that doesn’t mean that this event was irrelevant.
Apple announced today that the iPad will be available in the US on Saturday April 3rd, and pre-orders start next Friday, March 12th.
CUPERTINO, California—March 5, 2010—Apple® today announced that its magical and revolutionary iPad will be available in the US on Saturday, April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. In addition, all models of iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April.
Beginning a week from today, on March 12, US customers can pre-order both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store (www.apple.com) or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store.
Good stuff. The release is about a week later than the rumored March 26th date, but it’s nice to finally know the real deal on when we can get our hands on one.
Today there is a new, nicer rumor – originated at Examiner.com – that says the iPad will hit stores on March 26th.
We not only heard this from inside sources, but confirmed it with an Apple Store manager in Southern California who wishes not to be named. Here are some other interesting roots from the grapevine: The actual release date hasn’t been set, but March 26 is very likely. The 3G versions won’t be available until April or May. Commercials will start airing on March 15. E-book capabilities will be emphasized. People who camp out for the iPad lauch will receive a "special gift."
Needless to say, I like this rumor better than the possible delays one. Release three weeks from Friday sounds damn good to me. Hopefully Apple will put an end to rumors and let us know the plan soon.
