How Do You Feel About a Green iPhone?

We are near the end of the yearly iPhone rumor cycle, as Apple’s announcement is now less than a month away. However, there are still a few minor details left to trickle out. This time, they supposedly come from a former Foxconn employee.

Tim Cook’s Turning Point

Analysts that cover Apple finally got to be the broken watch that’s right twice a day. After so many botched predictions, at last they got to celebrate calling a slowdown in iPhone sales. While there are some who did have sound financial reasoning behind their predictions, I have a hard time giving any respect to many who just threw crap against the wall until it finally stuck. But to the few who called this based on sound analysis, a tip of the proverbial cap for sticking to their guns when the rest of us thought they were crazy a couple of months ago.

Here We Go Again- Analysts Reading the Supply Chain Tea Leaves

It feels like it was just last year that we were right here. Analysts, bloggers, the tech press, and even the mainstream financial press thought they had Apple this time. The iPhone X was a dud. The fall was happening and they all called it. Except it didn’t. And they didn’t. Hell, it wasn’t even last year. It was earlier this year.

Some scrambled for cover while the smart ones just threw up their hands and admitted they had it wrong, but anyone with any sense could see what really happened. The press blew it, but boy Warren Buffett didn’t.

iPhone XR Preorders Start on Friday. Who’s In?

Last year, we had to wait to get our hands on the top of the line iPhone X. This year, buyers have had to wait an extra month to get most of the XS’s best features in a unique and less expensive design. The beginning of the end of this wait starts on Friday, when pre-orders for the iPhone XR go live at 12 AM Pacific on Friday.

iPhone Preorders by the Numbers

Some of the usual suspects have started to weigh in on Apple’s Watch and iPhone XS and XS Max preorders. Leading off, Ming-Chi Kuo says that sales are following the pattern that I suggested yesterday (I make no claims of genius or inside knowledge, just common sense). He reports that sales of the iPhone XS Max are meeting expectations, which I don’t think is a surprise. It has a novelty factor that the XS no longer holds. Speaking of the XS, Kuo says that pre-orders are “lower than expected.” I don’t find this surprising in the least, either, as the majority of people who wanted this design got an X last year.

The Watch Series 4 Stole Apple’s Show, but the iPhone XR is the Real News of this S Year

Now that the dust has settled, many in the tech press and analyst community are proclaiming that Apple’s iPhone announcement event was boring. To be fair, I can’t blame hem too much. The Apple Watch Series 4 grabbed some headlines with its bigger screen and impressive new health features, but the consensus on the new iPhones is that they don’t really bring anything new to the table.

The Remains of the Apple Event and What We Didn’t Get

The iPhones XS, XS Max, and XR and the Apple Watch Series 4 weren’t all that was announced today. There were just a few other morsels that Tim Cook briefly covered at the end of the event. Continue reading

The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR Are Official

The new iPhones are here, and are exactly what we’ve heard from the leaks, so far, but the A12 sounds quite impressive.

Leakers Have “One More Thing” to Say Before Apple’s iPhone Event

It’s been a tough month for Apple’s poor security team. It looked like they had a pretty tight lid on things ahead of WWDC last year, as the new iPad Pro productivity features and some other items came as a surprise. Today, not so much. They can’t seem to keep a lid on anything, software or hardware, at this point. In fact, it looks like they just gave away some of the last bits and pieces of info themselves.
