iPhone Preorders by the Numbers

Some of the usual suspects have started to weigh in on Apple’s Watch and iPhone XS and XS Max preorders. Leading off, Ming-Chi Kuo says that sales are following the pattern that I suggested yesterday (I make no claims of genius or inside knowledge, just common sense). He reports that sales of the iPhone XS Max are meeting expectations, which I don’t think is a surprise. It has a novelty factor that the XS no longer holds. Speaking of the XS, Kuo says that pre-orders are “lower than expected.” I don’t find this surprising in the least, either, as the majority of people who wanted this design got an X last year.

The Watch Series 4 Stole Apple’s Show, but the iPhone XR is the Real News of this S Year

Now that the dust has settled, many in the tech press and analyst community are proclaiming that Apple’s iPhone announcement event was boring. To be fair, I can’t blame hem too much. The Apple Watch Series 4 grabbed some headlines with its bigger screen and impressive new health features, but the consensus on the new iPhones is that they don’t really bring anything new to the table.

It’s Time to Make the Preorders

I love Apple hardware events and all the reveals. This year was a little light on those thanks to all of the leaks, but there were still bits and pieces to be enjoyed. I also love getting my hands on new Apple hardware. It’s the getting up at 1:45 AM Central part that I’m not so thrilled with.

The iPhones XS, XS Max, and XR and the Apple Watch Series 4 weren’t all that was announced today. There were just a few other morsels that Tim Cook briefly covered at the end of the event. Continue reading

Leakers Have “One More Thing” to Say Before Apple’s iPhone Event

It’s been a tough month for Apple’s poor security team. It looked like they had a pretty tight lid on things ahead of WWDC last year, as the new iPad Pro productivity features and some other items came as a surprise. Today, not so much. They can’t seem to keep a lid on anything, software or hardware, at this point. In fact, it looks like they just gave away some of the last bits and pieces of info themselves.

Apple’s iPhone Event is a Week Away, and the Rumors are Flying Fast

At this time one week from now, the dust will all be settled and we will know what the heck Apple is up to. Today, not so much. I thought 9to5Mac’s flurry a weeks ago would take a bit of the air out of rumor silly season, but as today showed, that answer is an emphatic NO.

Here are some of the new predictions of what Apple will be releasing, and the names they will go by. The good, the bad, and the just plain dumb.

The Cat’s Out of the Bag- Apple’s Event and New iPhones in Focus

It’s official. Apple sent out invitations to all the cool kids today, and to absolutely no one’s surprise, the happy day is Wednesday, September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park. For all us small timers and working stiffs, there’s always the video stream. Not that I’m complaining. Apple’s now polished video streams certainly beat the old days of following live blogs to get the news as things unfolded.
