There have been rumors of a few different Apple devices coming in the first half of the year, many of which have come from noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Now he’s back with another projection that we should be seeing new gear sooner rather than later.
Another year has ended and a new one has begun. In the time honored tradition of marking the beginning of a another trip around the sun, it’s time to make some New Year’s Resolutions. However, rather than make them for myself this year, I’m going to set my mind to thinking of some for Apple in 2020.
Mark Gurman goes on these streaks of Apple reporting sometimes. He will string together articles over the course of multiple days leaking all kinds of goodies. He is at it again right now, as after spilling the beans on Apple’s upcoming AR plans yesterday (which I also wrote about here), Mr Gurman delivered the goods on the new 16″ MacBook Pro today.

According to a chinese-language report (via 9to5Mac), Ming-Chi Kuo is predicting a monster first half of 2020 that would really shake up the company’s hardware portfolio, as well as change up some of their typical release schedules.
That’s the way it goes in the tech world. By the time the new thing arrives, the news cycle is already well on to the next thing. This goes double with Apple. As the new iPhones 11 and Apple Watches arrive in the hands of eager buyers (including myself) later today, there have already been a lot of reports on what seems to be an inevitable October event, as well as a lot of rumors on next year’s iPhone. Yeah, the tech press isn’t known for its patience waiting for the next leak or story.
There was a moment during Apple’s iPhone Event last week that got a lot of people’s attention, mine included. When Phil Schiller started talking about significantly better battery life for all new iPhone models, tech writers, bloggers, and aficionados alike took notice. It was even bigger news when early reviews confirmed Apple’s claims.
This is exactly what many of us have been asking Apple to give us for a while now. However, they have usually seemed too concerned with thin and light to worry about adding battery capacity.
Normally, I wouldn’t recommend buying an 7 year-old computer, even at a significant discount. But bear in mind this is coming from a Windows user. Macs are a different story, so if you are looking for a backup machine for basic home use, you could do FAR worse than a refurbished MacBook Pro. MacBooks are built to last.
After four years of complaints and problems, Apple may finally be preparing to move on from its problematic Butterfly Keyboard design. According to well-known Apple supply chain leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, the company will be moving to a newly designed version of the common scissor key mechanism on a coming version of the MacBook Pro.
Apple released a new refresh of the MacBook Pro recently and reveled that they did more than just bump the specs. They also made additional alterations to their troublesome butterfly keyboard mechanism to prevent the infiltration of foreign debris and the issues that brings with it.
If you own a MacBook or a new MacBook Pro, you are probably familiar with the need for dongles associated with mobile electronics today. I am getting a taste of this myself with my Lenovo Yoga 720, as it only has one USB-A port, and two USB-Cs. However, that is a walk in the part compared to either one or four USB-Cs alone.
