I thought that my wife would love the new Powerbeats Pro wireless earbuds from Apple, but there is no way to be sure about these things. I’ve been wrong before in guessing my wife’s tastes. Even after almost 22 years of marriage, I still don’t have all the answers and I’m sure any husband can relate to that. She can be on the picky side about certain things and it just happens that things she puts on or in her ears are among them.
As I said in my last Powerbeats Pro article, I thought they would be a much better fit for my wife, as Apple’s current earbud design just doesn’t work for her. They aren’t very comfortable for extended use and they tend to fall out of her ears. I’ve heard the same complaints from others, as well. That’s why it was smart on Apple’s part to put the same chips and ease of use of the AirPods into some key Beats products, as well. This gave users who didn’t care for their bud design some good alternatives.
However, the previous Beats wireless buds and phones didn’t offer the same winning combination of being both really portable and fully wireless. That is what makes the Powerbeats Pro a big step forward on the Beats side. They have full parity with the AirPods in features and also offer richer sound, more stability and greater durability. THIS is why I thought my wife would love them and I was right.
Even though I still need to do a little testing on my own, I went ahead and handed them over to her Friday evening. I wanted to be sure she loved them since we are leaving for a week-long vacation next Friday. If she didn’t like them, that would give me enough time to finish reviewing them before exchanging them for something else. But now I know and no returns will be necessary. In fact, I may have to write further on them based on what she tells me, because I don’t think I’m getting them back, and that’s just fine with me.
I’ve heard some of you complain about the design of the AirPods over the last couple of years and since my own wife has the same issues, I understand where you are coming from. That’s why I’m writing about this today. If you are an Apple user and love the features and functionality of the AirPods, but just can’t deal with the shape, then you should take a good look at the Powerbeats Pro.
Yes, they are more expensive. However, from a convenience, durability and sound quality perspective, I do think they are a worthy step up. In fact, even though I love my AirPods, I’m a little jealous of the richer, fuller sound. However, I do think the AirPods are still the better fit for the way I use them at work. First world problems, right?
In the end, I’m more excited that I nailed this gift than anything else. It’s always fun when you really knock it out of the park with a present that your significant other loves and will use on a daily basis. I will be happy every time I see her wearing them.
