PadInTheCity is a new service that lets you rent a 3G iPad while you’re in the city of Madrid, Espana. For around $56 per day they provide a 3G iPad (original rather than iPad 2 I assume) with an unlimited data plan and a stack of good apps for tourists and users in general.
They deliver the iPads to you at your hotel, an airport or agreed location, with a case and charger included, and collect it from you at the end of your stay / rental period. You can reserve your iPad online via Paypal, with a reasonable security deposit.
The list of included apps is impressive and looks perfectly tailored for this sort of rental service. Madrid-themed apps include a map / guide to the Madrid subway system, Lonely Planet Madrid, an audio-guide for the wonderful Prado art museum, and a Spain city destinations guide. General purpose apps include Google Earth, iBooks, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and The Economist, a few rental car apps, TuneIn Radio, and the ubiquitous Angry Birds.
What a great idea this is. And what a fantastic city to kick it off in. Madrid is one of my favorite cities in the world – just a spectacular place.
I hope and imagine the service will be expanded to other cities if it is successful in Madrid.
If you’re planning a trip to Madrid, or just live in Madrid and feel the need to rent an iPad, lucky you! Oh, and you can go here to check out PadInTheCity for all your iPad renting needs in Madrid:
