Solar Walk – the wonderful iPad and iOS app that offers a tour of our solar system and its planets – has had a recent update, to Version 1.7.
A couple of notable new features in this update are 3 new educational movies and the ability to search for planets, satellites, and stars. The 3 new movies are on Earth’s cycles, Solar Eclipse, and the Moon Phases. I had a chance to watch two of them just after updating the app last week and they look great.
Here’s the full change list for the 1.7 update:
– Search for planets, satellites, stars
– New enhanced interface
– Three new educational films: Earth’s Cycles, Solar Eclipse, The Moon Phases
– Sharing beautiful views of the Universe via Twitter, Facebook and e-mail
– Bug fixes (Saturn’s rings, minor bugs)
This is another happy case of an already superb app continuing to improve and add cool new features. If you’re interested in astronomy yourself, or if you’ve got kids who are, this app should definitely be of interest.
Here’s an App Store link for Solar Walk; it’s priced at $2.99 and is a universal app designed to run on both iPad and iPhone.
