Brydge 12.9 Max+

Review: Brydge 12.9 Max+ Wireless Keyboard with Trackpad

Brydge 12.9 Max+

When I saw the first ad for the new Brydge 12.9 Max+ Wireless Keyboard with Trackpad, I knew I had to try it. I’ve been a fan of Brydge’s keyboards for a few years now, but just from a photo, I could tell this one is different. Very, very different. From the new design to the massive trackpad, the Max+ is a whole new ballgame. Let’s get into the reasons why and all of the fine details.

Waiting for the Beta

IPadOS Multitasking App Switcher

I’m struggling with patience this year, or maybe lack thereof. Normally I’m right there with the early birds, jumping into the first beta on most of my devices on day one. That gives me no end of things to write and talk about as all of the new features are uncovered. But not this year.

I’ve waited a few days on the early reports on Beta 1 bugs a couple of times. I’ve even waited for Beta 2 to show up before making the jump before. This year is the first time since I started running betas around iOS 4 that I’ve had to wait beyond the release of Beta 2.

First Look: Brydge 12.9 Max+ Wireless Keyboard Case with Trackpad

Brydge 12.9 Max+ Box

A few months ago I got an email saying that Brydge was working on a new firmware that would bring multitouch to their Pro+ keyboard case’s trackpad and  I got really excited. All of the sudden, this accessory that I had completely given up on was back in the game with a fully functional trackpad. The beta firmware was impressive and gave Brydge’s first iPad Pro keyboard with trackpad a whole new lease on life.

A few weeks later, I saw even better news from Brydge. They announced that they were coming out with a new keyboard case for 12.9” iPad Pros (including the new, slightly thicker 2021 version) that was very different than their previous models. It was the 12.9 Max+ Wireless Keyboard Case with Trackpad, and it looked like a legitimate competitor to Apple’s Magic Keyboard.

It’s iPad Pro Day!

2021 iPad Pro m1

Today is the day for those of us who managed to get into the online Apple Store and place our orders while supplies held out. I just checked the tracking on mine and it left Louisville, KY Thursday morning, arrived in Nashville, TN that evening, and is now showing up at the depot in my small suburb as “Preparing for Delivery.” I finally feel confident it will actually arrive today.

2021 iPad Pro Update: Cards Are Being Charged!

2021 ipad pro

One of the first signs of life before any Apple product starts its journey to a new owner is the processing of the payment. Apple didn’t get rich for no reason. Nothing ships out until they get their money, but that’s no different than anything else, right?

Brydge’s Beta Firmware Breathes New Life Into Their Pro+ Keyboard

Brydge Pro+ Keyboard

While we were on vacation this week, I started testing out the Brydge Pro+ Keyboard. Again. Due to lack of updates, I eventually gave up on the first one I bought and it ended up in a drawer. I had high hopes when it was announced, but that was before Apple released its official trackpad support and Magic Keyboard last spring.

A Week After I Gave Up on Brydge and Their Pro+ Keyboard, They Finally Start Moving Forward Again

Brydge Pro+ Keyboard

A few weeks ago, I was looking through some of my older devices and accessories and decided to clean house a bit. Anything I didn’t need was either offered up here for the cost of shipping, or on eBay. My Brydge Pro+ has been collecting dust for several months now, so it definitely made the list.

Brydge Updates the Pro+ Firmware Again: It’s Getting Better Slowly

Brydge Pro+

So I’ll give Brydge credit for one thing. They are working really fast to try to get the Pro+’s trackpad working better. They shipped their second firmware update for the device today, courtesy of their free Brydge Connect app. If you have a Pro+, just update the app in the App Store, run it with your Pro+ plugged into a power supply and run the update.

The Brydge Pro+ Bluetooth Keyboard with Trackpad Arrives

Brydge Pro+ in boxWhile all eyes, including my own, have been focused on Apple’s Magic Keyboard, Brydge has been starting to ship their new Pro+ Bluetooth Keyboard and Trackpad. While it was announced and preorders opened before iPadOS 13.4 and the Magic Keyboard were unveiled, Apple still beat them to market, putting them at a bit of a disadvantage. That’s the game, I guess.

Apple’s New Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro Shakes Things Up

I have wanted Apple to go all out and give us their version of a standard laptop keyboard for the iPad Pro for a while now. Even if you like the Smart Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio, they aren’t what I’m talking about. Those were thin, light and mobile at the expense of all else. You know, things like backlit keys. Or a key mechanism. ANY key mechanism at all.

Apple Releases New iPad Pros for Preorder and Announces New Magic Keyboard

So Apple didn’t waste any time after accidentally leaking their new iPad Pro models a couple of days ago, releasing them this morning at Apple.com. Both models are available for preorder today, with the 11″ model starting at $799 and the 12.9″ version at $999.
