The new limera1n jailbreak for all the latest iOS iPhones, iPod Touches, and the iPad was released yesterday. This jailbreak works for all current (and ‘minus 1’) generation iDevices. Specifically it covers:
iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G
4.0-4.1 and beyond
It is Windows only for the moment, but a Mac version is said to be coming soon, and these instructions should likely be the same (or very similar) once a Mac version does appear. Hit the break for an easy run-through on how to jailbreak your iPad with limera1n …
Mucho drama in the iOS jailbreak arena this weekend. Yesterday afternoon Geohot – the original iPhone unlocker and renowned independent jailbreaker – released his new limera1n jailbreak for all current iOS devices and all ‘minus one’ generation devices as well.
Limera1n works on Windows only for now, but Mac and Linux versions are said to be coming soon. It’s not quite a one-click jailbreak like some previous ‘ra1n’ jailbreaks from Geohot, but it’s still quite quick and easy. I’ve already used it to jailbreak my iPhone 4 and will give it a go on an iPad shortly.
The upcoming limera1n jailbreak should be able to jailbreak the iPad as well as all iPhone devices
Geohot – George Hotz – has been one of the leading iPhone jailbreakers and unlockers since the very early days of the original iPhone. His most recent jailbreak apps have been super-fast, one-click sort of solutions, and they have used rain as the naming theme. We’ve had purplera1n, blackra1n, and now rumors are heating up that we’ll see his latest and greatest – limera1n – in the next few days.
Though Geohot has not made any announcements yet on what exactly limera1n will do, it is rumored to be a jailbreak for just about any iPhone OS device, running any OS version. Here’s what our friend Sebastien at iPhoneDowloadBlog has to say on this, for example:
The questions on everybody’s lips is now when will GeoHot release LimeRa1n and what device will it allow to jailbreak? LimeRa1n should be available in the next few days and it should work on all devices, including the iPhone and iPod Touch 3.1.3, as well as the iPad.
Well … he’s done it again. Geohot – the original iPhone unlocker and well-known iPhone hacker – has posted a picture at his blog of a jailbroken iPad.
He hasn’t given any details or a release date yet, but he is generally very fast with these things – so I imaging we may see an iPad jailbreak app release from him very soon.

Geohot – the boy wonder of the iPhone jailbreak an unlock community and creator of the popular blackra1n jailbreak method – has posted a video demo of a new untethered jailbreak (i.e one with no need to re-jaibreak after each reboot) that will work on all latest model iPhone and iPod Touches.
Here’s the very exciting part in relation to the iPad though:
The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.
Geohot thinks this latest jailbreak will probably work for the iPad too. Obviously that is no guarantee, but for as long as I can remember following Geohot’s efforts, he doesn’t make a lot of empty boasts. He seems be able to walk the walk far more often than not.
No word on a possible release date for this new jailbreak yet, but how sweet would that be to see the iPad jailbroken on Day 1?
