Notable New iPad Apps: MLB.com Home Run Derby

MLB Home Run Derby

The new MLB.com Home Run Derby iPad app is just what the name sounds like – an iPad game that lets you test your long ball hitting prowess, playing as one of the home run hitting stars from the last three MLB All-Star games.

The game lets you choose from any of the 24 sluggers who took part in the last three All-Star Home Run Derby events – though many of them require you either to collect a large number of ‘MLBucks’ as bonuses while you play or to pay up via In-App purchase. The game starts you off with 100 MLBucks, which will allow you to choose from around 9 of the sluggers who cost that much to select. Others range from 300 to 700 – for instance Robinson Cano from the 2012 Derby and Prince Fielder and David Ortiz from 2011 are 700.

Some of the other stars you can play as include Miguel Cabrera, Matt Kemp, Jose Bautista, Andrew McCutchen, and more.

There are single and multi player options and two playing modes:

ARCADE MODE: Hit as many home runs as you can before time runs out. Multiply your score with targets and combo bonuses.

DERBY MODE:Enter the authentic Home Run Derby tournament and see if you can survive against baseball’s top sluggers.

Quick Look: World Cup Table Tennis for iPad

tabletennis

This is one of the most beautifully designed and addictive iPad games on the app store. It takes several hours to learn the techniques and become a master at World Cup Table Tennis for iPad. And that’s as it should be. Have you ever played Table Tennis ?  It’s not easy.

Thankfully I have spent hours mastering the finger movement, and now I am taking my Ping-Pong skills on to the world wide stage. Well sort of.

Flick Golf HD On Sale at 80% Off

Flick Golf HD

Flick Golf HD is on sale at a great 80% discount off its normal price. It’s available for just $0.99 rather than 4,99 as a special New Year offer.

This is one of my current favorite games for the iPad. It’s a simple but challenging and fun golf game, where you just get one shot at each hole and you have to reach a minimum score level on each nine-hole course to unlock the next one. A perfect sort of game for when you’ve just got a few minutes to spare, or for slightly longer sessions at times as well.

You can grab Flick Golf HD at its big sale price in the App Store now.

Madden 2011 for iPad Launching Tomorrow

Madden2011foriPad

Madden 2011 for iPad – the first iPad version of the legendary NFL-based video game – is due to launch in the App Store tomorrow.  TechCrunch has a good article up with a video interview of a producer at EA Mobile (who publish the app) who offers some great comments on what’s different and cool about the iPad version.

The Hot Routes feature looks like it will be very slick on the iPad.  For lots more on this, go check out the video and the post over at TechCrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/07/madden-ipad/

And look out for Madden 2011 for iPad in the App Store tomorrow – apparently it’s expected to be priced at around $12.

Foosball HD – Foosball on the iPad

This actually looks quite good, and is certainly well timed, as it was released on the same day the World Cup kicked off.

I like that is offers one and two player modes.

You can find Foosball HD in the App Store now, priced at $2.99 – which is apparently a 40% off introductory discount which runs out today (June 15).

I discovered the app via Gizmodo
