What’s on Your iPad? A simple question but one that leads to some fascinating answers. This is another installment of our occasional series of What’s on Your iPad posts. I enjoy these a lot because I love seeing how people put their iPads to use – and I find them a great resource for discovering new apps.
Today’s answers are provided by Roxanne Wilson. Roxanne is that rare person who seems to fit more into a typical day than most people fit into a week. I met her when we were both among the first 10 people in line for the iPad 2 a couple years ago outside our local Apple store here in Austin. We had several hours to talk about everything iPad and all sorts of other topics. The time flew by and it’s my favorite ever Apple line experience. I’ve followed Roxanne’s blog ever since and I’m very happy she took some time to do this post with me. Here’s a little more profile info on her:
Roxanne is a television host on The Liquidation Channel and Jazzercise franchisee. A self-proclaimed “Girl-on-the-Go,” who is all things Austin, Texas.
Here are Roxanne’s answers – questions are in regular text, answers are in block quotes:
Which iPad model do you use? (original or iPad 2, WiFi or WiFi + 3G, storage size) Any particular reasons for choosing this model?
iPad2 WiFI + 3G
The 2 was a huge upgrade from the original, so I switched immediately, stood in line and everything. Since then I am waiting for my iPad2 to get too slow or a newer version that I just have to have.
Do you use any sort of case with the iPad? If so, which one/s and why?
Michael Kors Snakeskin Case – Zips and has a stand. It’s stylish and functional.
I also have the Red Apple case, the magnetic cover. I only use that once in a blue moon.
What’s on your iPad dock currently? Do these apps pan out as your most frequently used?
No they aren’t the most frequently used. Only about half are my frequently used apps.
What are some of your other most-used apps / what’s on your first home screen? (and any reasons why you’d like to offer)
Mail, Safari, Messages, Pages FB, Hootsuite, Pinterest, Camera, TurboCollage, ABC Player, Register (Square)
How do you arrange your home screens? Do you use folders at all / heavily?
I don’t use folders at all. Really I am not an arranger, I just get to my apps and then have them open so I can double click the home button and get to them easily.
What are some of your most used productivity apps on the iPad? Any that you use for work?
Numbers and Pages are must used
I’ve actually started using Notes after using all sorts of high-falooting apps for note taking, I realized that the basics are pretty nice.
As a Television Host, work for me is a lot of social networking, so that entails a lot of Pages (Facebook), Twitter, Hootsuite, Google+ (which by the way is a BEAUTIFUL app), Pinterest, Polyvore. I use them daily on my iPad.
Oddly I Instagram on my iPhone, not my iPad.
When it comes to my other “work” running a Jazzercise Franchise, Square (Register) is where it’s at.
Do you read any newspaper or magazine apps on the iPad? Do you subscribe to any?
I have Self, Glamour, Allure. That I subscribe to, but they are aren’t really iPad friendly. They constantly ask for a password, and you always have to download issue.
I use Flipboard
How much, if any, book reading do you do on the iPad?
Ha ha this is a little embarrassing, but when I went to Canada for the Christmas Holiday, I read all three books in the Shades of Grey series on my iPad.
Surprisingly, iBooks has gotten a lot more savvy. It was easy to purchase and easy to read.
Any favorite iPad games or fun time fillers?
I will always love WordWarp. I’m nerdy like that.
Have you got a ‘hidden gem’ type iPad app that more people should know about?
Not sure how “hidden’ it is, but TurboCollage has proved to be quite handy in my line of work and social networking.
Oh I also love Pocket. It makes surfing the web so easy. There are so many times when I know I need to read something but it is a bunny trail, or I know I need to reference it again. Pocket helps me get organized and have what I need, when I need it without having to search for it again.
Any killer apps you think are missing from the iPad App Store, apps you’d love to see come to the iPad?
Fox need a Player! Seriously what are they waiting for?
All channels need to allow live TV watching from the iPad
Do you tend to pay much attention to your home or lock screen wallpaper? Change it up often?
I don’t change it very often. But when I do, I like custom picks.
Huge thanks to Roxanne for sharing what’s on her iPad with us. I like a lot of her mentioned apps – and Pocket in particular is a big favorite of mine.
